Growing up, I often found myself in what I call “in-between” spaces. While I served my family as a Korean-English translator and a cultural bridge, I found myself not quite Korean, and not quite American. Different from others, without always having the language to describe exactly where I may fit: I found myself not quite straight, not quite female. Through my lived experiences, I learned to be comfortable in navigating the “unknowns” as they presented in my life.
Having grown up as an immigrant child, I am interested in bridging intergenerational communication gaps and supporting marginalized communities with systemic inequities. As a new-ish mother, I am interested in supporting those who are navigating the different phases of pregnancy and parenthood, as well as those who are curious about their potential journey as a parent. As a person living with fibromyalgia, I am interested in supporting those living with chronic pain and all the concurrent mental health issues that arise with chronic pain.
I am polyam, ENM, kink, and LGBTQ+ affirming and provide therapy for relationships and individuals online in California.
Therapeutic Practices
Collaborative Therapy
Collaborative Therapy is egalitarian, client-centered, and conversational. It is believed that the transformation process happens within the conversation, and dialogues will be facilitated within the therapeutic context to explore different perspectives, improve communication, and gain better understanding of situations and relationships. It invites the clients to take up space with their inner thoughts and further develop their unique voice, while figuring out their own capabilities and prompting change.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative Therapy is a client-centered therapeutic practice and that brings to light the different systems that influence how an individual may story themselves. Too often systems reinforce negative and deficit-based beliefs; Narrative Therapy can be a way for clients to take back control of how they make sense of themselves. Storytelling can be an evocative vehicle for change and acceptance.
Solution-Focused
Brief Therapy
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy focuses on the potential solutions to conflicting situations and feelings instead of focusing on the “problem.” Exploring how to move away from past negative experiences and focusing on what can be done different now allows the clients to explore alternative possibilities that centers clients in the present and benefit them as they move forward into the future.
